An Evening With The 82nd - Monday, July 21, 2008

82nd

Charlotte, N.C. — The 82nd Airborne Division All American Chorus will be performing a once in a lifetime concert inside Imaginon’s McColl Theater on Friday Aug. 1, 2008.

Prior to the event, there will be a reception on the outer concourse of the theater from 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Also, there will be a Special Forces Detachment Alpha Team display showcasing all the equipment which is used on a combat mission. The Charlotte Fire Department will attempt to have a live satellite link to members of the 82nd serving in Iraq.

When asked by a reporter “why would anyone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane,” General Maxwell D. Taylor replied, “Well, I really don’t like to jump out of airplanes, but I sure like hanging around the people who do!” Come out and see first hand why General Taylor made this comment about paratroopers by meeting and enjoying time with the All Americans! Charles H. Swannack, Jr. Major General, U.S. Army (Retired), 42nd Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division and President of the MFLCF

The All-American Chorus is a nonprofit musical group composed of Division Troopers representing every unit within the Division. An informal organization, the All-American Chorus was formed in November 1967 to sing at Sunday services in the Division Chapel. At that time the chorus consisted of about 15 members. First and foremost, these paratroopers are combat soldiers and represent most of the military occupational specialties in the Army; however, they are also very talented performers. Though their primary mission remains serving the soldiers of the U.S. Army and Fort Bragg, their off-post performances continue to increase, so much in fact that they have become one of the Army’s greatest recruiting tools. Appearing in their maroon berets, ascots, and Army Combat Uniform, the troopers of the "All-American" Chorus are truly ambassadors for the 82nd Airborne Division.

“This is a rare opportunity to enjoy a world-class performance by some of America’s finest soldiers representing the elite 82nd Airborne Division, while supporting our sons and daughters fighting to preserve our freedoms.  The Military Families LifeStyle Charitable Foundation (MFLCF) supports the families of paratroopers and special operators who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.  By spending “An Evening with the 82nd”, you are honoring our soldiers for their committed service and sacrifice on our behalf.  This will be a memorable evening with lasting consequence.”  LTC (R) Richard D. Cantwell CEO of the MFLCF
